Story by Muriel Kakani
This story begins in the Gir forest in Gujarat. There lived a lion called Narasimha. He was a young lion in age to start a pride of his own. But as the Gir Sanctuary was overcrowded with
lions and people, he couldn't find a place to establish his territory.
Narasimha left Gir and after many days, he reached the Vindhya hills in Central India. After a search of many days, he found a perfect territory to setttle down.
Unfortunately, nearby lived a Royal Bengal tiger who was very fierce. The tiger's name was Raja.
One day, the two big cats met and fought together trying to find out who was the real king of the jungle.
The fight was going on when suddenly they heard a gunshot.
"Run," shouted Raja. "Hunters are here."
Both of them ran into the jungle.
After that Narashimha asked: "You saved my life. Why did you do that?"
Raja replied, "We both are cats, we both are endangered. If we want to survive, we have to be together."
The Gir lion or Asiatic lion is an endangered animal. The Gir lion is smaller than the African lion. It has a smaller mane.
